Concrete Driveways, Stairs & Patios

Concrete is still the construction material of choice for large areas. Used for thousands of years, it’s durable and low–maintenance. Versatile concrete boosts the curb appeal of your home.

Walks and drives are more than a boring way to get you where you’re going—decorative options can make them amazing. Though traditional gray remains popular, concrete can be stamped into patterns that look like brick or stone, textured, stained with colors that won’t flake off or peel away, stencilled, or engraved into patterns that won’t wear away or lose bond.

Now available in a dizzying array of colors and styles, concrete lasts for many years. After 28 days of curing, concrete is almost indestructible, requiring only an occasional soap and water cleaning. Stains should be removed immediately and discoloring can be removed with pressure washing and special chemicals.

Concrete areas subject to harsh weather and repeated freeze–thaw cycles are prone to spalling and scaling. Periodic sealing helps to prevent damage. And in Minnesota, how well driveways and patios look and perform long–term are largely related to craftsmanship and materials used. Billy Bricks’ skilled installers understand how Minnesota’s harsh climate affects concrete. We will explain how to avoid scratching and scraping it when you’re plowing or shoveling snow or ice, and how to avoid damaging concrete when it’s used by extra–heavy vehicles or large construction equipment.

And concrete is environmentally friendly, too. It is made with abundant sustainable and renewable resources—water, rock, sand, and cement. (The main material for cement is limestone, the most abundant mineral on our planet.) When concrete reaches the end of its usable life, it can be crushed and recycled as granular fill, as a base course for new pavement, or as an aggregate in new concrete. Who knew!

Concrete is so versatile that it’s no longer just for outdoor use. Many high–end architectural wonders feature concrete countertops and concrete floors in addition to statues, sculptures, and water features. Curious? Take a look at our Photo Gallery page for ideas.
